BENEFITS

BURIAL AND DEATH BENEFITS: include burial flag, government marker and military funeral honors. Veterans in receipt of VA compensation or VA pension at time of death may be eligible for payment or reimbursement of burial and plot allowance. (http://www.cem.va.gov/)

COLLEGE FEE WAIVER PROGRAM: Dependents of veterans who are rated by the VA with a service-connected disability (0% or higher) may be entitled to a waiver of registration fees at California Junior Community Colleges, State Colleges and University Campuses.

COMPENSATION (service-connected) for veterans, for mental or physical diseases or disabilities, which occurred in service, or were caused by or aggravated by military service. (Includes those caused by in-service exposure to mustard gas, radiation, asbestos, exposure to cold, and herbicides/Agent Orange, such as type II diabetes, undiagnosed disabilities related to Persian Gulf War service, and mental conditions, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, caused by in-service traumatic events.(http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/index.htm)

DEPENDENTS AND SURVIVORS of a disabled or deceased veteran may be eligible for benefits, including children of Vietnam veterans who have been diagnosed with Spina Bifida.(http://www.vba.va.gov/survivors/index.htm)

EDUCATION for veterans who qualify for the Montgomery GI Bill, or VEAP. A veteran rated service-connected disabled 30% or more by VA receives an additional allowance for dependents, including children over 18 years of age and under 23 years of age, if in school. A child of a veteran who is rated by VA 100% permanent and total, may receive a monthly benefit if attending a post high school education program, and is under 27 years of age. GOVERNMENT LIFE INSURANCE for service-connected disabled veterans, Service members’ Group Life Insurance and Veterans’ Group Life Insurance.(http://www.insurance.va.gov/)

MEDICAL TREATMENT: Eye glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and dental treatment for eligible veterans.(http://www1.va.gov/health/)

MILITARY RETIREES AND DEPENDENTS PRESCRIPTION: Please visit the website below or contact our office for help with enrolling in the Tricare Mail Order Pharmacy. This program allows you to get three months of medication delivered directly to your home for the price of one month’s co-pay.

PENSION: (non-service-connected) based on need (income limit) for veterans who served during a wartime period. Death pension for surviving spouse of deceased veteran with wartime service may be eligible for pension based on need.(http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/)

VETERANS HOMES OF CALIFORNIA are first and foremost a place where veterans go to live. They offer complete medical and dental care amidst the amenities of a small town atmosphere. Residents may participate in on or off campus activities, civic affairs or attend veterans service organization meetings. Currently, Veterans Homes are located in Yountville, Barstow and Chula Vista.
