The Sonoma County Veterans Service Office is a unit of the County of Sonoma, Human Services Department, Adult and Aging Services Division. The county Veterans Service Office program was established in Sonoma County in 1944 to provide assistance to veterans and their families.We are not part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (“The VA”). We are a county agency dedicated to serving veterans and their families. We are knowledgeable about the huge array of programs, benefits and services that are available today.
Office Updates!
We have been very busy! Client workload continues to increase, but we are working hard to ensure that everyone who asks for assistance gets it in a timely manner.
Dudley is working as a volunteer on Wednesdays and Thursdays; those of you who have been working with her in the past are free to schedule appointments to meet with her. Please call Donna, our wonderful receptionist, to schedule an appointment with Dudley. The phone number is 565-5960.
Lauralyn Castle is a new Veteran Claims Worker on our staff. She is an Army Vet, and has worked with Veterans for years. Welcome Lauralyn!
We are in the process of hiring one more Veteran claims worker… more to follow when we select the new employee. We are excited with the prospect of being fully staffed with claims workers!
Non Service Connected Pension; Widow’s Pension (also often called Aid and Attendance)
The VA has a benefit that can help Veterans or their surviving spouses who are either low income, or have significant medical or care expenses pay for some of the associated costs. The application process has many potential stumbling blocks; if you try applying on your own, you risk significant delays. Our staff is experienced in this process, and is accredited by the VA to assist you or your family members to apply for this benefit. I am proud to be a member of a dedicated team of professionals. Dudley, Mark, Michael, Jody and I stand ready to provide information, assistance and referral to veterans and their families.
All too many veterans are unaware of the services and benefits to which they are entitled. In fact, often a veteran will visit our office for assistance in submitting a claim for one specific ailment and discover during an in-depth interview that there are other issues to be addressed. Our goal is to ensure that every Sonoma County Veteran we serve receives, or is at least made aware of his or her entitlements.
I have immense regard for our country’s Veterans, and I pledge the support of myself and the other members of the Sonoma County Veterans Service Office.
